An award or a certificate is stating that a website won a competition or follow certain quality standards set by the promoter of the award. Often an award is indicated by a small icon on a website which also provides a link to the website of the award promoter where you could get further information on the nature of the award.

As everyone could invent and promote awards at free will not every award or certificate automatically indicates a especially recommendable website. In fact there is a wide spread of such prices from blatant nonsense up to very serious and important awards promoted by major organizations or companies.
