A computer network is a connection of two or more computers. The connection between them is provided by cable or radio. To ensure all participating computers are able to understand each other and can exchange data via the network, all computers have to talk within a specific "language". There are different "languages" (called protocols) depending on the functions that should be available in the network.
As in very large networks (such as the Internet) it is impossible to connect each computer with each other the data is handed over to remote computer by other computers being between the source and the destination computer.
