Search Engine

At the website of a search engine you can enter a request for your search and will be presented a list of Internet sites which are related to your request as a result. As this relation could be quite far fetched the search engine uses algorithms to sort the results by relevance and influence of the hits.

The data needed for answering those requests (from a pool of several billion websites) is gained by programs (so called "spiders" or "crawlers") which autonomically search the Internet and categorize the data found in huge databases.
